Skyhawks make the news... as UFO's

Oct 28, 2011

On Friday night, high school senior Dushawn Brown scored a pretty touchdown for his Horizon Huskies team in Scottsdale, Ariz. That's not too out of the ordinary, as Dushawn's a good player. But what went on at the same time Brown made the play was quite abnormal -- and has thousands of folks speculating what it could be.

A fan at the game caught three lights hovering and shifting in the dark sky over the desert:

Those at the game weren't the only ones who noticed. Other videos have popped up to corroborate the evidence.

Shockingly, there are a number of theories floating around, from skydivers to lens flares. One commenter pointed out that it was clearly a skydiving team with tracer sparks attached, and they are often mistaken for UFOs. Some even dismiss the lights as standard backyard Chinese lanterns.

Strange lights in the sky

Sep 17, 2011

Some southeast valley residents found themselves looking at strange lights in the sky.

Numerous calls came into the Fox 10 newsroom Saturday night about lights seen in the sky.

Some people said the lights were fading in and out.

The lights were actually a part of Saturday night’s Constitution Fair at Town Center in Gilbert, an all-day event to celebrate the signing of the U.S. Constitution.

As a highlight of the festivities, parachuters carrying large lights were dropped from planes.

We are hosting a Swooping competition at the Salt River Field Sports Complex, April 9, 2011 from 2:30 PM - 5:00PM.

Swooping Also called canopy piloting, swooping is a skydiving discipline that tests a jumper's accuracy skills. Seconds after jumping, the swooper opens his or her parachute, or canopy, then turns into a rotating dive, picking up speed. Swoopers jump from about 4,500 feet above the ground (rather than 13,000 feet for skydivers) and freefall just five to 10 seconds before pulling their canopies.

Just feet from the ground, the swooper levels off, skimming along the Earth at 80 mph and entering a course to navigate various challenges. Once through the course, the competitor must stop inside a target.

The sport is difficult even for experienced skydivers.

The Arizona Skyhawks Parachute Team will make a spectacular night time sky dive into the event.  both on April 8th & 9th. Jumping from 5000’, sporting glow in the dark jump suits and pyrotechnics on their boots they land right in the middle of the crowd.
